I'm such a dork! I thought this was real until someone pointed out that the url was missing the requisite .gov. Did you set the whole thing up yourself, did friends help, or did you just come across it?

No I'm just a vehicle. To answer your questions, I came across it on nettime tonight and thought the web site of this 'bureau' was hilarious (especially the details / typos) or really scary, as in more real than real (it wouldn't be the first time a gallery gets closed down in new york for some stupid reason ; and the legit .gov links that are on the home page, for instance http://www.citizencorps.gov are just as scary or unbelievable). What is making me ill right now, but I was looking for it, and it was quite predictable, is the facility with which people are ready to believe anything they are told (come on people, it's the internet!) / to be deceived by appearances and authority. I'm not referring to your reaction but to the reactions to my post on the - ambiguously titled - 'sos_usa' community on lj. Though I agree, this was very subtle. Kind of.

I've seen other things similar to this and I was never duped because 1) I didn't care about the issue 2)The hoax didn't seem plausible. I think I was willing to believe this regardless of the typos and the silly reference to Arnold because of the recent past. I have to smile about it again when I think of the reference to Arnold. I must admit that I was really embarrassed, but also thought it hilarious. So, thanks for the laugh and the wake-up call in regard to my own gullibilty.Arnold...ha!

You know that you're off my Christmas card list, right? Making me disprove the existance of a non-existant group in a journal that would immediately believe the worse of the government. You know something's wrong when I'm the voice of reason.
